Fortress Lake Alberta

Fortress Lake is located behind Fortress Ski Resort. At the time of my visit the road leading to the Resort was closed due to bridge problems. It has been this way for a couple of years. This means getting to the lake takes allot more effort as you either have to walk or bike the road to the Resort. From the resort you have to hike over two of the ski hills to get to the lake. The lake itself is a nice blue and is very clear.

Fortress Lake Cutthroat Trout

The cutthroat trout in this lake are plentiful and you can sight fish when the wind is calm. Smaller fish often follow the lure so I used a size large enough lure to keep them off. There was lots of action in this lake as well as I caught many fish and received allot of bites and fish following. The largest size I caught was 13" with most ranging in the 11" to 12" range.
