Maude Lake Kananaskis Alberta

Maude Lake is located almost on top North Kananaskis Pass. It's generally accessed via the Turbine Canyon trail. There is also the Turbine backcountry campground which is only about 2kms away. The lake is a clear blue color and much of the shore is shallow.

Maude Lake Cutthroat Trout

On my first visit in 2008 fishing in Maude Lake is about as easy as it gets. These aggressive cutthroat seem to at least bite on every cast. I only fished for a couple of hours here in the middle of the day and I caught too many fish to keep track. Fishing the deeper water off the rocks seemed to work best. Since the water in Maude is so clear cutthroat can be seen swimming around the shore even in the shallow areas. The fish I caught were mostly in the 12 inch range with some approaching 13". On my last visit fishing was much slower. This is a stocked lake so I'm not sure if I caught it on a bad year.
